Credit Crunch (3)

What is recession?

A lot has been said and done about the ongoing recession, it’s so sad to see/hear the loss and effect of the global meltdown all around us. I had done a serious post here and a not too serious :-) post here on the credit crunch. This post is just to help us lighten up, lets say...... my attempt at humour.

Please enjoy this story.....

This story is about a man who once upon a time was selling Hotdogs by the road side, He was illiterate, so he never read newspapers. He was hard of hearing, so he never listened to the radio. His eyes were weak, so he never watched television, but enthusiastically, he sold lots of Hotdogs.
He was smart enough to offer some attractive schemes to increase his sales.

His sales and profit went up; He ordered more and more raw material and buns and sold more.

He recruited more support staff to serve more customers, he started offering home deliveries. Eventually he got himself a bigger and better stove. As his business was growing, the son who had recently graduated from college joined his father.

Then something strange happened.
The son asked, “Dad, aren’t you aware of the great recession that is coming our way?” The father replied, “No, but tell me about it”. The son said, “The international situation is terrible! The domestic situation is even worse! We should be prepared for the coming bad times.”

The man thought that since his son had been to college, read the papers, listened to the radio and watched TV, he ought to know and his advice should not be taken lightly.

So the next day onwards, the father cut down his raw material order and buns, took down the colourful signboard, removed all the special schemes he was offering to the customers and was no longer as enthusiastic. He reduced his staff strength by giving layoffs.

Very soon, fewer and fewer people bothered to stop at his Hot dog stand, and his sales started coming down rapidly and so did the profit. The father said to the son, “Son, you were right.” We are in the middle of a recession and crisis. I am glad you warned me ahead of time.”

I am not in anyway trying to undermine the effect or the gravity of the recession, just that I am more interested on how we allow it affect us.
In as much as it looks like we are helpless, there is still a "little" lot we can do,
like I wrote here.

but in all I think we just should not FUEL the recession more than we should, and if it helps anyone, our prayer and confession this season should be;

………..in this recession, God help me experience a progression!

Nice week, you all!

Great write up. If the father ignored his son's advice, that would have been a classic unboxed theory in action.
For believers, there's nothing like recession or 'economy' because there are no scarce resources and "the harvest is great..."
Thanks for the uplifting post.

Can you imagine? Because of the son's advice, the guy brought the recession home!

Thanks dear. Lately, I've decided to fill my mind with more positive stuff. There's enough trouble in the world already as it is!

I will not be a bearer of bad news! God's word says Isaac sowed in famine and reaped a hundred fold, it will be the same with me and my household! And when men are saying there is a casting down, we will be saying there is a lifting up! Amen!

I to the hills will lift my eyes from where comes my help even in times of recession for the father almight will protect me from the negative effect of recession, inflation and deflation.
As children of God we need to keep our eyes on the father even through the steepest curves.

A nice piece

I like this piece.... It reminds me of people nowadays listening to the news every single day and then believing all the hype of recession. Eventually, recession will affect the listener; if that becomes their most dominant thought, or what they hear and read every single minute of the day. People will experience recession if they choose to participate in it. I for one refuse to participate in it.

Guess what? Money did not leave the planet, it simply changed hands, yes, even in the midst of recession. The man in your story worked on that principle, when he was unaware of recession. The minute he decided to participate by reducing his stock, he simply gave the money permission to go elsewhere...
I like the post...

have a great Easter...

Nigeria Television Authority conducted an opinion poll along the streets of a major city in the country on the effects of economic meltdown and recession on the masses. Each of the respondents affirmed that they were being affected by the economic crunch but when they were asked how, the steam evaporated.

You couldn't have narrated it better than you did...
Lesson learnt from the story: despite the situation, don't let it overtake you, instead overtake it with joy & laughter believing that God is in controlThank you so much, Olufunke...you don't put up post all the time but when you do, it is always the thought-provoking ones.
God bless you...

Happy Easter...

my dear, i loved this story! u took thots out of my head for real. as in, sometimes i just want CNN and their brothers to shut up about the recession because they are only adding firewood to the fire, and making more people fearful of going out to spend money thus perpetuating the "recession."
